Bots with Blocks (PLV)
It’s happening. The robots are coming and they’re taking over Pace. On February 16, robots will battle it out in the Goldstein Fitness Center as Seidenberg hosts the FIRST Tech Robotics Tournament in PLV.
It’s a robot revolution in PLV this weekend as high school students bring their homemade robots out to compete at the Hudson Valley NY FIRST Tech Challenge Regional Championship on Sunday, February 16, in the Goldstein Fitness Center in PLV.
Students in FTC design and build a robot using aluminum, polycarbonate, motors and servos, sensors, and a variety of other materials, and then put their robot to the test in a challenge. This year’s challenge, Block Party!, will feature teams completing various tasks, including participating in a game where robots score points by placing blocks in bins on pendulum goals in autonomous and driver-controlled rounds.
This year, 36 teams of future scientists and engineers will bring their brains and their bots out for a morning of challenges in hopes to qualify for the World Championship to be held in St. Louis in April. Plus, each year more than 100 members of the Pace Community, including Seidenberg students, student athletes, faculty, staff, and alumni, volunteer their time to make this event happen.
This event is free and open to the public. Check out the promo video for this year’s tournament on YouTube.
