Learn about the growing movement for disability rights in an especially positive and powerful setting at Pace! On Monday, March 31, from 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m., Pace will host the second annual Celebration of Individuals with Disabilities in Films: International Film Festival and Discussion Panel, featuring short films and a distinguished panel on the advocacy of disability rights, in the Schimmel Theatre on the NYC Campus.
The festival, which focuses on respecting the autonomy and empowerment of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and individuals with other disabilities expressing dreams and hopes to be contributing members of society like other individuals without disabilities, will highlight largely short films from leading national and international film festivals for disability rights. The festival includes a panel of experts, moderated by Pace’s Dean for Students on the NYC Campus Marijo Russell-O’Grady, PhD, from organizational and practitioner fields on the challenges and the opportunities introduced in the films, and a discussion with attendees. Panelists include:
- Alice Elliott, Director, New Day Films
- Adil Imran Sanai, Self Advocate
- Isaac Zablocki, Festival Director, ReelAbilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival
- Maria Hodermarska, Master Teacher, New York University
