Letter From the Deans

News Story

Deans Lisa Bardill-Moscaritolo, left, and Marijo Russell–O’Grady.

Dear Parents and Families,

On behalf of the Pace community, greetings and happy holidays! As you’ll see from our website, there are many exciting events going on at our New York City and Westchester campuses in the coming months that we hope you and your student will enjoy.

There are also some important dates and deadlines we wanted to call to your attention. We know that college can be a hectic time—for students and their families alike—and our goal at Pace is to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible. So here are some things you might want to put on your calendar:

Spring 2014 Registration

Registration for the spring semester is currently underway. Has your son or daughter met with an adviser and registered? All full-time undergraduates in good academic standing may register for a maximum of 18 credits.

Students should keep in mind that if they encounter any difficulties with registering there is always someone ready to assist them. Any freshmen who are having difficulties or simply have questions can contact Brendan Halligan in Pleasantville (BHalligan@pace.edu), Mike Verdino in NYC (MVerdino@pace.edu), or their UNV 101 instructor. Other students should see their major adviser or School/College adviser.

If your student is still searching for a major, Shannon Haick (SHaick@pace.edu) or Beth Ann Tonner (BTonner@pace.edu) of the NYC and Pleasantville Advising Centers for Exploring Majors are available to help.

Winter Break

The Pace Winter Break runs from Saturday, December 21, the end of the Final Exam Period, until Monday, January 27, when the spring semester begins. University offices reopen on January 2.

January Intercession

The January Intersession, beginning on January 2, offers a wide range of traditional and online courses. Students can earn three credits in four weeks. More information and a list of courses can be found at http://www.pace.edu/admissions-aid/january-intersession.

Financial Aid

The Priority Consideration Deadline for filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2014-2015 is February 15. A calendar of other important dates regarding financial aid is available at http://www.pace.edu/financial-aid/content/deadlines. That page also has a link to the U.S. government FAFSA site.

Our Financial Aid Office offers these three tips for parents:

(1) Please include your e-mail address on the FAFSA, so that a Pace representative may contact you directly with important information regarding such matters as Parent Loan processing and federal verification requirements.

(2) Consider using the IRS Data Retrieval option when completing the FAFSA. That will reduce the chances of your son or daughter being selected by the Federal Department of Education for its verification/audit process.

(3) E-mail is Financial Aid’s primary means of communicating with students. Please ask your student to check his or Pace e-mail account regularly.

Student Leadership Conference

Pace’s Office of Student Development and Campus Activities will host the University's 7th Annual Student Leadership Conference on Saturday, February 15,  at 1 Pace Plaza in New York City. Presenters will share their experiences to help students become more effective leaders.

Room Selection for 2014-2015

Room selection for the 2014-2015 year will begin in March. Students receive information about the process via e-mail and other means, including where to go online for the details on our buildings and their costs. As a reminder to parents, the process has three basic steps, all of which need to be completed for a returning student to secure guaranteed housing. Students who fail to complete all three will not be entered into fall housing and are at risk of being placed on a waiting list.

The steps are: (1) submitting the housing deposit of $400, (2) completing the online housing application for returning students, and (3) participating in the online room selection process.

Some key dates for NYC:

March 3 – Students may begin making room selection deposits (which must be done in person at OSA). All deposits are due by March 28.

April 4 – Online housing applications for returning students, found in the MyHousing section of the student’s Pace Portal, are due.

April 7 - 8  – Students with approved medical accommodations may visit the housing office and choose their room assignment

April 8 -10 – Online room selection.

Some key dates for Westchester:

March 28 – Room selection deposits and online applications are due. The application can be found in the MyHousing section of the student’s Pace Portal.

March 28 – Priority housing applications (Townhouses and New Dorm), which must be submitted in person, are due.

April 3 – Single room selection (in person).

April 8-10 – Online room selection for all remaining spaces.

April 22 – Final placement process.
