IFRS: Are We Walking or Just Talking?
Robert Herz, chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); Tom Jones, Vice Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board; Samuel A. DiPiazza, Jr., Global CEO, PricewaterhouseCoopers; and Edward Nusbaum, CEO and Executive Partner of Grant Thornton LLP, will give keynote interviews at the Third Annual Lubin Forum on Contemporary Accounting Issues on April 30, in midtown Manhattan. David Pecker, BBA '72, chairman and CEO, American Media, Inc. will be an Executive in Residence on the New York City campus on Thursday, March 26. Mr. Pecker will lecture to both graduate and undergraduate students, and provide insights into the vast publishing business he heads. American Media publishes 16 magazines and is the leading publishing company in the celebrity journalism and health and fitness categories. On Friday, May 8, the Marketing Department is sponsoring a major industry-oriented conference, "The 2009 Executive Summit: Marketing and Technology - The Next Frontier." The conference is co-sponsored by McGraw-Hill/Irwin, and MENG, the Marketing Executives Networking Group, and is geared toward executives and senior managers responsible for strategic planning, product or service marketing, sales growth, new business or channel development, retailing, advertising, and other marketing communications. Sixth Annual Business Plan Competition
The Pace Business Plan Competition, sponsored in conjunction with the Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurshipand the MIT Enterprise Forum of New York City, will take place on April 13. This competition is held to foster entrepreneurial spirit among students, promote practical business skills, and encourage the creation of new ventures. The competition is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, and also recent Pace alumni. The winning business plan will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize.

The Lubin Spring Banquet is an annual event hosted by business organizations at Pace University, including the Pace Finance Club, Beta Alpha Psi, ALPFA, NABA, the Pace Investment Club, ASCEND, WICA, and PUMA. The banquet provides a forum through which professionals from various business fields can share their experiences and knowledge with current Pace students. "Creating Connections Across Time" was selected as the theme for this Ninth Annual Spring Banquet. Robert Caporale, Managing Director, Alternative Investments, JPMorgan Chase, will be honored. The event will be held on the New York City campus on March 30.

[Beta Alpha Psi Spring Dinner]   Beta Alpha Psi Annual Dinner
Beta Alpha Psi will be hosting its 13th Annual Spring Dinner on April 13. The theme, "Philanthropy Unbound," will focus on the importance of social responsibility to corporate America. The dinner will feature a business executive, yet to be announced, who has made a significant difference in his/her community. Beta Alpha Psi focuses on the significance of professionalism and community service among its members.

Corporate Governance: A Global Perspective
During the spring semester, notable guest speakers conducted presentations on corporate governance. On February 23, Don Konigsburg, senior manager, Deloitte Corporate Governance Center, compared the United Kingdom's approach to GDC and how it differs from the US. On March 9, Andreas Beroutsos, Elton Park Capital, discussed governance issues for firms acquired by Private Equity owners. On March 30, Robert Moytka, Royal Bank of Scotland, Federal Reserve, will discuss regulations and current issues facing the financial sector.

[Masters in Finance for Professionals (MFP) Successfully Launched in January ]   Masters in Finance for Professionals (MFP) Successfully Launched in January
Lubin's innovative Masters in Finance for Professionals (MFP) launched its first class on January 29, 2009. The MFP is a one year, 36-credit MS degree program that is designed for working professionals in finance. The format combines bi-monthly weekend residencies with online work. Professor Kevin Wynne, the MFP's academic director, said, "The timing of this program couldn't be better. Banking and corporate finance professionals more than ever need to understand the fundamentals of our changing financial systems."

Economic Forecaster Addresses Students and Faculty
In February, Maria Fiorini Ramirez (MFR), president and CEO of MFR, Inc., was an Executive in Residence on the Pleasantville campus. Ms. Ramirez has been named one of the top economic forecasters in the country by the Wall Street Journal. BAP VITA volunteers and their clients
  VITA Help for Tax Season
Lubin's Iota Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) annually organizes the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offering free tax assistance to low-income individuals and retirees. The program serves as a volunteer activity for members of BAP. Volunteers are trained by the IRS and obtain certification by passing a basic proficiency exam. This year, 50 BAP students became certified tax preparers. In past years, Beta Alpha Psi prepared over 400 tax returns for the public.

International Travel
During the January 2009 intersession, Lubin undergraduate students visited Brussels and London for a ten-day International Marketing Field Study experience. Students participated in lectures given by marketing and advertising companies, including Coca-Cola, McCann Erickson and FedEx. During the spring semester, Lubin graduate and undergraduate students will visit Brazil, China, Russia and Finland, and Dubai and London. Increased field study participation is being made possible through the generous support of the Figueroa family who contributed $1,500 per eligible Lubin student. The Figueroa family also contributed $3,000 per study abroad experience.

Bill Barker as Jefferson
  "Thomas Jefferson" to Visit Pace
On Tuesday, April 7, Eric S. Petersen, a New York attorney and editor of Light and Liberty: Reflections on the Pursuit of Happiness (a compilation of Jefferson's writings) and Bill Barker, the well-known Jefferson interpreter based in Colonial Williamsburg, will present the "The Vision of Thomas Jefferson for Today's America" on the downtown NYC campus. Jefferson's legacy and vision are surprisingly relevant today in the midst of the global economic crisis. Petersen and Barker (as Thomas Jefferson) will discuss civil liberties, the Constitution, and government's role in the pursuit of citizens' welfare, the national debt, the banking system, globalization and international trade, and other national issues.
