Big Week in the Big Apple (NYC)
Shoot hoops for a good cause, laugh and learn at Lubin’s EIR Lecture, celebrate disabilities and women, and top it all off with a powerful dance performance at the Schimmel—all in a week’s work for the NYC Campus.
Spring break may be over, but the New York City Campus is just getting started with events and lectures that will have you saying, “I’m having the busiest and best week ever.”
Lubin Executive in Residence
Tuesday, March 29 | 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. | Schimmel Center
Lubin’s Spring 2016 Executive in Residence (EIR) is an Emmy and Tony awards winner, writer, and actor. But on March 29, Alan Zweibel is (almost) all business as he takes the Schimmel stage for his EIR lecture. Click here for more information.
Disabilities Film Festival
Tuesday, March 29 | 4:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. | Bianco Room
This March, Pace invites you to the fourth annual Celebration of Individuals with Disabilities in Film, featuring short films respecting autonomy and empowerment of people with disabilities. Click here for more information.
No Boys Allowed
Thursday, March 31 | 8:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. | Bianco Room
Often serving as pillars of society, women will be honored and recognized for a night of celebration and appreciation. Contrary to the title, all are welcome to join the Caribbean Student Association and Lavender Ladies for an all-female showcase.
3 on 3 Tourney
Thursday, March 31 | 9:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m. | Gym
Shoot and score with your team at a basketball tournament for a good cause. The Office of Housing and Residential Life Philanthropy Committee invites teams of four—which must include one female, one male, and one sub—to face off against each other for a chance to take home prizes and of course bragging rights, while raising funds to support student runners at the upcoming 9/11 Memorial Run/Walk. To register, teams should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and pay to play—$10 for each team will be due at the door.
Zvi Dance: DABKE
Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2 | 7:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m. | Schimmel Center
Dabke is a contemporary dance inspired by this ancient Middle-Eastern folk dance. Arabic for “stomping the ground,” dabke is the national dance of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Palestine; Israelis have their own version. Israeli-born Zvi Gotheiner’s dabke uses the power of dance to highlight tribal and national identities as well as dissolve those definitions. Reflecting on the recent Arab Spring movement that ignited the Middle-East with unstoppable forces for change, Gotheiner aspires to celebrate this trend, and by creating dabke, acknowledges its ripple effect on all of us. $10 student balcony tickets are available for advance purchase in person at the box office. Student rush orchestra tickets are available for purchase at the box office on the day of the performance (subject to availability).
