Faculty and staff are winning awards and accolades and sharing their expertise on the shapes of planes, going solar, and more in this month’s “Fit to Print” column.
Ann Courtien, compensation analyst for Human Resources, won CUPA-HR’s Eastern Region Emerging Leader Award and was recognized at the CUPA-HR Eastern Region Conference at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut in April.
Susan P. Berardini, PhD, associate professor of Spanish in Dyson College, received the Kenan Award for Excellence in Teaching at the May 2015 Commencement ceremony that was held at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. She has taught all levels of Spanish at Pace since 1997.
Two Lubin professors received major awards at the prestigious Eastern Academy of Management (EAM) conference on May 8. Eric Kessler, PhD, received an Outstanding Theoretical Paper award and Imran Chowdhury, PhD, received an Outstanding Empirical Paper award.
Lubin Professor and Director of the Entrepreneurship Lab Bruce Bachenheimer appeared on “Hiring America” on ABC and “SciTech Now” on PBS in the episode “From Soldier to Entrepreneur.” Both segments featured the Pace University Veterans Entrepreneurship Boot Camp. He was also quoted in the TheDegree360’s article “Most Employable Degrees for Business 2015” and American Entrepreneurship Today’s article, “Pace University’s eLab Provides Crucial Entrepreneurial Education to Veterans.” He also published an article on The Hill about the US supporting new entrepreneurial ventures to remain competitive.
A study by Lubin Professor Matthew Morey, PhD, “Should You Carry the Load? A Comprehensive Analysis of Load and No-Load Mutual Fund Out-of-Sample Performance” was recently cited in a White House memo written by the Council of Economic Advisers on the “Draft Conflict of Interest Rule for Retirement Savings.” He was also quoted in a Barron’s article about the impact of mutual fund fees.
Lubin Professor Andrew O. Coggins Jr., PhD, was quoted in ProPublica’s article on health and safety data on cruise ships, “Cruise Control.” He was also featured in a Bloomberg article about United Airlines’ shift of wide-body jets to domestic flights.
Leslie Seidman, the executive director for Lubin’s Center for Excellence in Financial Reporting, held a session called “Learning by Sharing Stories” at the second Women’s Accounting Leadership Series event in Cincinnati, reminding attendees that networking is an essential part of career development.
College of Health Professions Professor Sandra B. Lewenson, EdD, RN, FAAN, wrote an article for the New York Daily News Nurses’ Supplement which ran during Nurses Week.
Dean of Pace Law School David Yassky was quoted in a Connecticut Law Tribune article about the stiff competition facing new lawyers.
Assistant Professor of Accounting Chunyan Li, PhD, was quoted in a CNN article about Asian-American groups’ charge of discrimination in Harvard University’s admissions practices.
Lubin Professor of Marketing Larry Chiagouris, PhD, was quoted in Business Insider’s article about upcoming online retailer Jet.com and its potential threat to Amazon.
Law Professor Daniel E. Estrin was quoted in an article in The Villager about the recent amicus briefs filed by The Sierra Club and a group of New York State legislators and law professors to stop New York University’s expansion plan.
Lubin Professor Kathryn Winsted, PhD, was quoted in a New York Times article about Verizon’s plans to capitalize on mobile video advertisements following its recent AOL acquisition.
Law Professor Linda C. Fentiman was quoted in “Into the Body of Another,” an article in The Atlantic exploring some states’ practice of incarcerating women for abusing drugs during pregnancy.
Law Professor Randolph McLaughlin was quoted in an article in Business Insider about the review of criminal cases involving the San Francisco policemen who allegedly sent racist text messages.
Karl R. Rábago, the executive director of the Pace Energy and Climate Center, penned a guest commentary on The Advocate in defense of Louisiana’s solar industry.
Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins selected Jane Aoyama-Martin, the executive director of the Pace Women’s Justice Center, as her nominee for the Women of Distinction Award in 2015. The recognition is given to outstanding women living and working in New York State, whose contributions have greatly enriched the quality of life in their communities and beyond.
Several faculty and staff members from the College of Health Professions, including Dean Harriet R. Feldman, PhD, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Undergraduate Studies Martha J. Greenberg, PhD, Professor Emeritus Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz, Assistant Dean for Grants and Strategic Initiatives Sophie Kaufman, and Assistant Dean, Finance/Human Resources Stacie Cignarale, published an article the the Journal of Professional Nursing on the national nursing faculty shortage and some of the creative approaches that Pace has taken to address it.
