Speakers Up

Pace welcomes two distinguished guest speakers on April 6 for the Law School’s annual Lloyd K. Garrison Lecture on Environmental Law and Lubin’s annual Henry George Distinguished Speaker.
Henry George Distinguished Speaker: Lieutenant Jack Cambria
Wednesday, April 6 | 6:15 p.m. | Schimmel Theater Lobby, New York City Campus
Lieutenant Jack Cambria, former commander of the NYPD's Hostage Negotiation team, will join Lubin's prestigious list of Henry George Distinguished Speakers as he addresses students in the Schimmel Theater Lobby. Lt. Cambria recently retired from the Hostage Negotiation Team after serving the city for almost four decades and running the team for 14 years. He has been involved in every major negotiation in recent memory and has been called New York's most reliable person in its most tense situations, including some popularized broadcasted negotiations. Lloyd K. Garrison Lecture on Environmental Law: “Tragic Legal Choices in Keeping Below Two Degrees”
Wednesday, April 6 | 5:00 p.m. | Gerber Glass Moot Court Room, Pace School of Law
Delivered by Michael B. Gerrard, director of the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law and Andrew Sabin professor of professional practice at Columbia Law School, this year’s Lloyd K. Garrison Lecture on Environmental Law will focus on climate change. At the United Nations climate conference in Paris in December 2015, the nations of the world decided that global average temperatures must be kept well below 2°C (3.6°F) above pre-industrial levels if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Achieving this goal will require a massive transformation of the world’s energy system away from fossil fuels and toward clean forms of energy. In the United States, that will involve very difficult choices about land use, environmental review, species protection, and may require changes in the way we view some of our bedrock environmental laws. But failure to do this will involve even more difficult choices. Click here for more information.
