Spotlight on Clubs: The Pace Press
With candid opinions, award-winning success, and attention-grabbing exposé issues, The Pace Press continues to pump out their publication as the longest-running club at the University. Read up about the club here!
From writing about what’s trending on campus to providing more serious information on gun control, The Pace Press doesn’t stop until they get the scoop for Pace students. In this Q&A, Pace Press Editor-In-Chief Maximilliano Onofre shares accomplishments, what makes the club unique, and why students should get involved.
Q: What makes your club unique to Pace?
A: We are the longest running club at the University. We were funded in 1948 and have been working as a student-operated club. It’s something that no other club can say.
Q: What’s one of your proudest moments as a club?
A: Professor Barry Morris tweeting his support of us was an amazing thing because all the hard work the staff does is beyond their call of duty, and them knowing that there are people who appreciate their work makes them feel happy.
Q: Why should people join your club?
A: Students should join so that they can get the opportunity to see what they want to see published and to help give a platform to their opinions.
Q: What signature issues of the paper are you known for?
A: The paper does one exposé issue per year at the minimum, which is something our readers look forward to. We have placed in the top ten at the 2014 San Diego Best of Show at the Associated Collegiate Press 30th Annual National College Journalism Convention.
Q: If you could describe your club in a few words, what would they be?
A: A unique but fulfilling experience.
Q: What’s one of the most notable stories you’ve published?
A: Two recent issues have received many accolades from our readers in the past year, “The Gun Issue” and “Pace Perv.”
Q: How can students or audiences get involved?
A: Students can stop by our meetings and begin writing and intern with the staff. They can always reach out to us via Twitter and Facebook as well as directly emailing the editors.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: We’ve had our first successful meeting this week and we hope to continue with large numbers of writers. The staff is also working on a large exposé issue for the end of the semester which we hope our readers will enjoy reading.
