Crain's Cleveland Business: "Oberlin College president Marvin Krislov to lead Pace University"

By RACHEL ABBEY MCCAFFERTY

Oberlin College's president, Marvin Krislov, announced his plans to leave that role back in September, and on Tuesday, Feb. 14, his next step became clear.

Krislov this summer will join Pace University as its next president, the school announced in a letter from its board chairman.

Pace is a private university in New York, with campuses in New York City and Westchester County. It enrolls about 13,000 students, the university's website states.

The letter noted that Krislov will officially join Pace on Aug. 1. His final day as Oberlin's president will be June 30, according to the announcement in September. Krislov has led Oberlin since July 2007.

In the letter, Pace board chairman Mark M. Besca said the presidential search committee had been impressed by Krislov's "humility, integrity, intelligence, insight, energy, and good humor."

He also praised Krislov's work at Oberlin, specifically in "enhancing its student experience, increasing its student diversity and academic excellence, strengthening and expanding its faculty, and improving its fundraising, campus facilities, environmental sustainability, and community relations."

Oberlin posted a brief statement about the announcement, in which Krislov said he had been “honored to serve Oberlin.”

“Working with our outstanding faculty, staff, students, parents and alumni to further Oberlin’s mission and to honor Oberlin’s values has been the most educational and fulfilling experience of my life,” Krislov said in the statement. “Together we have done so much to strengthen Oberlin. I offer my heartfelt thanks to you all, and I know Oberlin’s next president will build on our efforts. Until the day I depart, I will keep working hard to help create a brilliant future for Oberlin.”

Krislov isn't the only Oberlin administrator headed elsewhere. Michael Frandsen, Oberlin's vice president for finance and administration, was recently named president of Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He will start in that role July 1.
