Valerie Cayo was searching for a major that would also allow her to use her mathematics skills. She stumbled upon computer programming and found the perfect fit. Now the Honors College student and Seidenberg Scholar is taking the next step: looking to merge her coursework with real-world work opportunities. Today, Cayo works at Seidenberg Creative Labs, helping to create web applications, websites, and other projects. Cayo is currently working on two mobile apps using Xcode, an integrated development environment containing software tools developed by Apple for software for OS X and iOS. One app, for the Seidenberg Creative Labs at Pace, is a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) app to help kids learn how to create and name ionic compounds. The second, an app for marketing company PS Insights, gives users marketing terms and definitions.
She is also a member of Kappa Delta sorority, which inspires its members to become women of greatness. For Cayo, opportunities are everywhere—in life and at Pace.
Watch Cayo’s video testimonial where she talks about these two apps, her favorite app and inspiration, and gives words of advice to aspiring developers.
