Visit to the Jay Heritage Center in Rye and Historic Preservation
The Jay Heritage Center (“JHC”), Rye, New York was established in 1990. Its mission is to preserve and celebrate the legacy of John Jay, one of our nation’s founders. The estate is a National Historic Landmark and is within the Boston Post Road National Historic District. The site includes several historic buildings most prominently, the 1838 Jay Mansion and the 1907 Van Norden Carriage House. It is situated on approximately 24 acres overlooking Long Island Sound. It is one of thirteen sites on the African American Heritage Trail of Westchester County.
Pace | Haub Environmental Law has a long history of working with the JHC in supporting its mission. Professor Nicholas Robinson serves on its advisory board while Professor Shelby Green is a member of the JHC Board of Directors.
Environmental Law Society students and other interested students are invited to go on a tour of the estate and learn about the intersections of historic preservation law, environmental and land use law, and sustainability. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Pace Jay Summer Fellowship. Contact Prof. Achinthi Vithanage for more information.
