Awarding Faculty Excellence

The Kenan Award honors exceptional teaching. Accounting Professor Kam Chan, PhD, center, was a winner last year.
The Kenan Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes exemplary teaching performance. Faculty members are nominated by their peers, and the recipient will be acknowledged at Commencement with a plaque and a $1,000 award.
Faculty members who meet these criteria will be considered:
- Unusual effectiveness in classroom performance
- Evidence of an outstanding degree of student understanding and concern
- Demonstrated high standards of intellectual interest
- A continuing source of inspiration to their colleagues
Nominations are invited from faculty, students, and administrators, and should include a one- or two-page supporting statement indicating how the nominee meets the criteria. Submit nominations (in a sealed envelope/marked “Kenan Nominee”) to the Office of the Provost, with a copy to the appropriate dean by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6.

The Teaching Excellence Award for Part-Time Faculty recognizes the valuable contributions of part-time faculty to the teaching mission of the University. Each year, it honors two part-time faculty members (one from New York City and one from Westchester), whose teaching performance is outstanding. Recipients are recognized at Commencement with a certificate and a $500 award.
Part-time faculty members who have taught at Pace for at least eight semesters and meet the following criteria will be considered:
- Evidence of outstanding student learning outcomes
- Unusual effectiveness in classroom performance
- Evidence of student satisfaction via student evaluation scores
- Peer evaluations describing high quality teaching
Nominations are submitted by the part-time faculty member’s department chair. A one- or two- page supporting statement indicating how the nominee meets the criteria should accompany the nomination, along with a signed endorsement from the school/college dean. A summary of student evaluation results for the previous eight semesters and at least one peer evaluation by a full-time department faculty member should be included.
The nominations must be submitted in a sealed envelope (marked “Teaching Excellence Award for Part-Time Faculty Nominee”) to the Office of the Provost, with a copy to the appropriate dean no later than Sunday, February 15. The two award recipients will be selected by a committee of tenured/tenure-track and part-time faculty appointed by the Provost.
