Poets @ Pace: Fall 2018 (NYC)

News Story

Bringing together the best and brightest poets to share their work, Poets @ Pace will be hosting two talented guests on Monday, November 12. Enjoy a book signing and refreshments!

Every semester, the Poets @ Pace series welcomes poets who inspire, captivate, and change the way we think about poetry. Come for an evening of readings and a Q&A with Emily Skillings, a breakout new talent, and Tony Towle, an award-winning poet and leading figure in the so-called Second Generation. There will be a book signing and refreshments afterward!

Monday, November 12
6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
Bianco Room
NYC Campus

This event is organized by Pace Poet-in-Residence Charles North and sponsored by the Office of the Provost. Curious about the guest list? Here’s a little more about them:

>> Emily Skillings has a BA from the New School in Dance and Writing and an MFA in Poetry from Columbia, where she was a Creative Writing Teaching Fellow. Her first full-length poetry collection, Fort Not, was published in 2017 by the Song Cave and has received high praise. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, Harper's, Boston Review, Brooklyn Rail, and BOMB, as well as in two chapbooks, Backchannel and Linnaeus: The 26 Sexual Practices of Plants.

>> Tony Towle’s association with the New York School of Poets began in the early 1960s, when he attended workshops at the New School with Kenneth Koch and Frank O’Hara. He has been a leading figure in the so-called Second Generation ever since. His first major collection, North (1971), won the prestigious Frank O’Hara Award. With thirteen books to his credit, he has received a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship among other prizes and honors; been represented in many important anthologies; and taught a legendary poetry workshop at the Poetry Project in NYC.
