Setter Success

The names are in! Mellison Arguson ’19 was just announced as a Fulbright award finalist, while Liza Bell ’20 and Arize Lee ’17 are alternates. We’re proud to be Pace Setters! Congratulations to our incredibly hard-working students.
The Fulbright US Student Program is a prestigious award that provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. During their grants, “Fulbrighters” will meet, work, live with, and learn from the people of a host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.
This Spring 2020, one Pace student was named a finalist, another was named a semi-finalist, and two more were named alternates. Those applicants are as follows:
-
>> Finalist: Mellison Arguson ’19, BA in Communication Studies, Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship, Philippines
-
>> Alternate: Liza Bell ’20, MPA, English Teaching Assistantship, Belgium
-
>> Alternate: Arize Lee ‘17, BA in Computer Science, Fulbright Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) Paris-Saclay Award, France
-
>> *Semi-Finalist (withdrawn): Taslim Tavarez ’18, BA in Political Science, Fulbright/University of Birmingham Award, UK
*Please note: although Tavarez was named a semi-finalist, she withdrew her Fulbright application as she also applied for, and won, the prestigious Schwarzman Scholars scholarship, which she has decided to accept.
A huge thank you goes out to the entire Fulbright Campus Committee for providing their time and feedback to our applicants. The Fulbright Campus Committee is a vital part of the application process, supporting our incredibly hard-working students every step of the way. A big thanks also goes to Director of the Office for Student Success Jenny Irwin for all her hard work in coordinating everything as well.
Congratulations, Setters!
