Biography

Adjunct Professor Kirby M. Smith is the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Bridgeport Partners, a New York City based investment firm. Professor Smith joined Bridgeport Partners from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz where he advised both public and private companies in a wide range of industries in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, spinoffs and other securities offerings. Prior to joining Wachtell, he clerked for then-Chief Justice Leo E. Strine, Jr. on the Delaware Supreme Court and Judge Andrew D. Hurwitz on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Professor Smith’s scholarship has appeared in the Iowa Law Review, the Business Lawyer, and The University of Chicago Law Review, among others. He received his JD, with high honors, from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The University of Chicago Law Review, and he received his BS, summa cum laude, from the New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
