Margaret M. Shalley

Adjunct Professor Margaret Shalley is principal of Margaret M. Shalley and Assoc. LLC, where she practices federal and state criminal defense and appellate advocacy. She is one of 10 lawyers chosen by the Board of Judges of the Southern District of New York to mentor experienced state criminal practitioners in federal criminal litigation, trial and writing skills. In addition to having extensive federal criminal trial experience, she has argued numerous motions on constitutional issues concerning violations of the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments. She has also authored and argued Second Circuit appeals.

Professor Shalley was a founding partner of Fasulo, Shalley & DiMaggio, LLP. Prior to that time, she was an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the General Litigation Division of the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York, and served as the Director of the Assigned Counsel Plan for the City of New York, managing and implementing the Assigned Counsel Plan that included 2,200 criminal and family court attorneys throughout all five boroughs. She was also the Arrest to Arraignment Director for Bronx County for the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety during two mayoral administrations. She began her legal career as a staff attorney in the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan. She is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panels in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the New York Criminal Bar Association.
