Inspire Young Minds While Supporting All Learners

Set the stage for lifelong learning with a bachelor’s in childhood education and a master’s in special education. This combined program equips you with the expertise to teach grades 1–6 and specialize in supporting students with diverse needs. Graduates will be certified to teach both general and special education classrooms, ensuring a broad range of career opportunities.

From your sophomore year, you’ll gain real-world classroom experience through immersive fieldwork, tutoring, and student teaching. As you progress, you’ll work directly with students to design lessons, lead group instruction, and implement tailored interventions for students with learning differences. By your junior year, the Center for Professional Development (CPD) model offers additional hands-on learning. You’ll spend one to five days per week in school placements, learning alongside experienced educators and building classroom management strategies.

Our virtual reality classroom simulator—one of the only programs of its kind in the region—allows you to practice teaching strategies before stepping into live classrooms. With strong partnerships in New York school districts, Pace graduates are highly sought after, with many securing teaching positions before graduation. New York ranks as one of the best states to teach in, offering some of the highest salaries in the nation—giving you the foundation for a fulfilling and impactful career.

Get Real Experience in the Classroom

Because experience is key, starting in your junior year, you will participate in our Center for Professional Development (CPD) model where you will practice your teaching skills through the completion of your undergraduate program. Receive hands-on experience in schools one day a week in your junior year and between two and five days during your senior year.

You’ll observe and tutor students, as well as provide small and eventually whole group instruction. Not only will you be able to apply what you are learning in the classroom, but also have the opportunity to explore different grade levels as you proceed through the program. As a CPD candidate, you have a unique opportunity to foster professional relationships with mentor teachers, students, and school staff, all in support of the diverse population of the students that you are serving.

Careers

Upon graduating from the program, you will become certified to teach Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and teaching students with disabilities. Our strong partnerships with local school districts mean that our students are getting hired before they even graduate.

As a Pace student, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with our robust career services team to develop a career plan that best fits your goals.
