About the Class
The Essentials of Human Resources Certificate Program is an introductory course offered in conjunction with the Society of Human Resources Management designed to give you a strong foundation in the core competencies and knowledge groups essential to the HR profession.
This course is perfect for those at the beginning of their HR career, those HR professionals looking to reinforce their knowledge base, and for non-HR practitioners who wish to better understand the function of Human Resources and how it intersects with their own roles and responsibilities.
Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Meet the instructor
Marie Esposito
Human Resources Management/Payroll
Marie was born and raised in upstate New York near Albany. She graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business College with an Associate Degree in Business Management/Accounting. She also graduated from Empire State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Economics & Finance. She has been working in the payroll industry for almost 30 years, utilizing various in-house and outsourced payroll processes, procedures, and payroll systems. Whether it’s been in Human Resources and/or Finance, she has worked for both teams. She has also worked in HRIS and HRMS fields as well as project management, learning and development and system training. She obtained her Certified Payroll Professional credential in 2009 and is a member of the American Payroll Association. She speaks at various events, writes articles for PayTech Magazine as well as conducts workshops for the annual American Payroll Association Congress. She currently works remotely as a Director of Enterprise Payroll in the HR Shared Services Department for a 4th generation family-owned company in Indiana.
Greg Chartier, PHD
Dr. Chartier is the Principal of HRinfo4u, a human resource consulting firm and a well-known educator and speaker. As a consultant, he works with organizations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their human resource function. He has worked extensively in designing, developing and implementing human resource program, procedures and systems for smaller and mid-size firms up and down the Hudson Valley.
Greg is a thought-provoking professional speaker and his wisdom and insights into management and leadership make him an electrifying speaker and seminar leader. His seminars are customized to reinforce company mission, vision, values and culture and the content is practical for team leaders, managers, supervisors and executives alike.
Dr. Chartier has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Human Resources. He is a National Member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) as well as a Senior Certified Professional (SCP) by SHRM.
Prior to the pandemic, he was a member of the faculty at Pace University, working with the Continuing and Professional Education Programs and the Human Resources Institute at Pace. He was also a member of the faculty of the New York Medical College. Currently, he is teaching at the Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina as he eases into retirement. He is the author of What Law Did You Break Today? A guide to the federal laws and regulations that employers must comply with.
