Cathy Haase, an actress and author, was born in Manhattan and grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, New York City, New York. She is known for her work in film and television: Another 48 Hrs with Eddie Murphy, The Ballad of Little Jo with Ian McKellen, CBS’ Madame Secretary and many others spanning all genres andbudgets. Her theater work includes the regional premiere of Good People and Firewoman’s Lift acclaimed at the Edinburgh Fringe. She is a founding member of the English Speaking Theater in Frankfurt, Germany and lived in West Berlin in the 1980’s where she was a part of the wild and vibrant film, theater and music sceneparticipating in numerous projects. Subsequently she learned to speak German and returns to Europe often to work.

Her book, ACTING FOR FILM, published by Allworth Press and distributed by Simon and Schuster is in itssecond edition with a foreword by Ian McKellen. It is considered essential reading, especially for theater students aspiring to work in film.

Cathy has taught acting extensively and passionately for decades, starting as the assistant to Walter Lott(Actors Studio) and his marathon workshops. On the film faculty at School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City she taught aspiring film directors, screenwriters, and animators to act and develop characters. She was also producer and director of the Dusty Screenplay Readings. She has taught at MIT, City College CUNY, Dffb in Berlin and FABW. She is a member of the Playwrights and Directors Workshop as a playwright and alifetime member of the Actors Studio.
