Biography

Adjunct Professor Stephen L. Brown is a Senior Advisor at KPMG Board Leadership Center, where he advises business leaders on key governance challenges, including shareholder activism and engagement, board composition, ESG risks and strategy. Formerly, he was CEO of the Society of Corporate Governance and led the corporate governance group at TIAA (Nuveen). Prior to TIAA, Prof. Brown practiced securities law at WilmerHale and Skadden and was an associate with Goldman Sachs. He has served on numerous boards and received honors and recognition including being named as one of the 100 most influential people in corporate governance and the boardroom by the National Association of Corporate Directors. For over a decade, Prof. Brown has taught corporate governance at Yale University, in the Skadden Legal Honors program at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College of New York, and the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. Prof. Brown received his BA with honors from Yale University and his JD from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
