Curriculum
Pace’s FNP program will prepare you to deliver evidence-based, equitable person-centered, primary healthcare to individuals within the context of family and community.
Additionally, you’ll complete 760 precepted direct care clinical hours in a variety of primary care settings with oversight and under the supervision of experienced clinical faculty and preceptors. As an evidence-based practice capstone project, you’ll implement and evaluate the use of best practices in primary care to improve the care of patients and populations.

Unique Program Experiences
You’ll enhance your critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning through a mix of online and on-campus classes supported by participation in simulated patient experiences and skills labs both in the classroom and in our state-of-the-art Center for Excellence in Healthcare Simulation. Located on both the Westchester and New York City Campuses, with a combined 15,000 square feet, the simulation labs use Standardized Patients (actors who play the role of patients), task trainers, and high-fidelity manikins to train both undergraduate and graduate students in a interprofessional approach.
Is a Certificate Right for You?
The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies program is for the master’s-prepared nurse practitioner with certification in another specialty, or a master’s-prepared nurse who wishes to become a family nurse practitioner. Credits are determined by a gap analysis.
The program meets requirements for the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification for both the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) certifying organizations.

Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited baccalaureate in nursing, be licensed as a registered nurse in New York State, with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 and evidence of successful completion (grade B or higher) of an undergraduate statistics course. Scholastic aptitude as evidenced by previous academic work, motivation, and maturity should be demonstrated. In addition, applicants must provide:
- A personal statement that 1) identifies two professional career goals, explains how your experiences have prepared you for graduate study at Pace, and describe how the program will help achieve these goals; 2) outlines how you'll manage personal and professional responsibilities to accommodate the time needed for study and clinicals; 3) discusses a key issue in U.S. healthcare and the role of advanced nursing practice in addressing it.
- A resume or outline describing at least the past five years of your employment history and any significant community, professional, or college extracurricular activities.
- Applicants need 2 letters of recommendation. Letters should be from academic or professional references that can knowledgeably comment on your ability to successfully complete graduate study. Include recognitions and achievements (e.g. licenses, publications, and awards).
- All Official Transcripts: Transcripts from every accredited college or university attended (not just the degree granting institution) must be sent either to Pace University, directly from the academic institution electronically or by mail, or forwarded by the applicant in sealed envelopes from the academic institution.
