Short Term Disability Leave for Full-Time Employees

The University provides eligible full-time employees with a Short-Term Disability (STD) benefit, which provides salary and benefits continuation (according to the chart below), in the event that an eligible employee is unable to perform the duties of their job due to illness, injury or pregnancy, to a maximum of 26 weeks** within a 52-week period. Short-Term Disability leave begins on the eighth consecutive calendar day of absence, including weekends and holidays.

**26 weeks within a 52-week period is the combined maximum duration of the following leaves: Short-Term Disability, New York Paid Family Leave, Workers’ Compensation disability leave.

As of September 1, 2024, Reliance Matrix will be administering all leaves (including short-term disability, long-term disability, Family and Medical Leave, and New York Paid Family Leave).

Please contact Reliance Matrix at 1 (877)-202-0055 to file a claim or submit your claim online.

If a short-term disability claim is medically certified, it will also count as time taken under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

The University provides salary and benefits continuation to our full time employees as indicated below:

Less than 3 MonthsNo salary or benefits continuation. May be eligible for the NYS Disability benefit only.

How to File a Claim

If you need additional information, please contact the University Benefits office, at (914) 923-2828 or at benefits@pace.edu, for information regarding the procedure for filing your claim or for questions regarding salary and benefits continuation during your medically certified disability leave.

For all full-time employees (with the exception of tenured faculty members), if Short-Term Disability benefits exhaust after 26 weeks, and you are still unable to return to work due to disability (following the maximum of 26 weeks of leave), you may elect to file for Long-Term Disability (LTD) benefits (if eligible); however, regardless of approval or eligibility for LTD, your position will no longer be held and your employment with Pace University will end. If you are subsequently able to return to work, following your separation from the University, you may apply for any open position for which you are professionally qualified; however, your application will proceed through the standard competitive hiring process.
