Ryan received his BA from UW Madison and MFA in Acting from The Yale School of Drama.

As an actor, Ryan is a company member of Bedlam Theater Company, playing John Proctor in The Crucible, Judge Brack in Hedda Gabler, and John Jones in Dead Dog Park. Other Off-Broadway credits include; Whorl Inside a Loop at Second Stage, The Killer, Antony and Cleopatra, King Lear and Hamlet at TFANA, and Vanity Fair at The Pearl. Representative Regional: The Old Globe, Yale Rep, A.R.T, Portland Center Stage, Milwaukee Rep, The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF), and others. TV/Film: Bedlam: The Series, Blindspot, Law & Order, Madam Secretary, Friends from College, Blacklist: Redemption, Person of Interest.

Ryan is also the artistic director and a co-founder of Esperance Theater Company, where he directed Breitwisch Farm, Youth & Ambition, and 12th Night. Additional directing: The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Two Noble Kinsman at HVSF, Fences at PA Shakespeare; God of Carnage, Dad’s Season Tickets, Lost Girl, Everybody, and So Thrive My Soul at Milwaukee Rep, and Mountaintop at Arc Stages.

Ryan has spent over a decade working with high school, college, and early career actors as a teaching artist through various theaters and as a coach for MTCA. Previous to Pace, he taught first-year acting at Carnegie Mellon University. Other representational institutions include NYU, Vassar, AADA, Lincoln Center, Bedlam, and HVSF.
