Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a dynamic and interdisciplinary major that aims to integrate fundamental principles of natural, physical, and organic chemistry, biochemistry, and biology to understand how to synthesize de novo medicine, optimize its delivery to the human body, and translate this integrated understanding into new and improved therapies against disease.

Pharmaceutical Sciences vs Pharmacy

The primary distinction between pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy is between direct-patient care and pharmacy practice, versus the science-oriented research field driven by pharmaceutical sciences. The latter combines a broad range of scientific disciplines that are critical to the discovery and development of new drugs and therapies, drug delivery, and drug action. The BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a liberal arts and science major that prepares you to pursue postgraduate education if you wish to be a licensed practitioner.

As a graduate of the BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, you will develop the skills for employment in research and development laboratories in pharmaceutical sciences and in production or quality control in a laboratory or production line. You will also be able to assist pharmacists, chemists, and engineers place more efficient methods of production and testing into practice.
