Required course for all first year students.
This course explores the substantive aspects of criminal law with a focus on the criminalization decision, goals of punishment, elements of criminal conduct, the crimes of homicide, attempt, conspiracy, sexually-based offenses and defenses to criminal charges, including justification and excuse. Students will study the different approaches to criminal law of the common law and modern statutes, including the Model Penal Code.
