Lectures and Awards

The academic experience at Pace | Haub Environmental Law is enriched through the presentation of several distinguished lectures and awards held on campus each year. Prominent environmental law practitioners, renowned law professors, judges, diplomats, scholars, and other environmental advocates are frequently invited to address an issue of legal importance in the field of environmental law and policy or present their scholarship. Their work and insights are celebrated by the intellectual curiosity of our students and faculty, and contribute to our culture of innovation at Pace | Haub Environmental Law.

The Elisabeth Haub School of Law established the Gilbert and Sarah Kerlin Lecture on Environmental Law more than 20 years ago to expand its programs of research, education, professional and scholarly activity and publications in environmental law and welcomes distinguished lectures to speak on pressing environmental topics annually.

The Lloyd K. Garrison Lecture on Environmental Law was established in memory of Lloyd K. Garrison in 1995 who, along with his associate, Albert K. Butzel, of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, won the landmark decision to preserve Storm King Mountain on the Hudson River. This historic legal victory inaugurated what we recognize today as the field of environmental law.

First established in 1979, the Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy is the world’s most prestigious award in the field of environmental law. Chosen annually by an esteemed jury, the Award recognizes the innovation, skill, and accomplishments of lawyers, diplomats, international civil servants and other advocates who work to create the world environmental order.

The Haub Environmental Law Distinguished Junior Scholar Award is presented annually to an emerging junior environmental law professor who exhibits scholarly excellence and promise at an early stage in his/her career. The Haub School invites the award recipient to present his/her recent scholarship to the Haub community.
