Your Career Roadmap
Haub Law’s Paths to Practice curricular approach provides students with a blueprint for pursuing their particular interest in law, with a focus on the knowledge and skills actually needed to work in particular specialties.
Advanced Certificates
Our Advanced Certificates in Environmental Law, International Law and Health Law and Policy are grounded in interdisciplinary subject matter and encourage engagement with law on a global level. Students are not required to give advance notice of their intention to pursue an Advanced Certificate, but they must meet with the advisor for the Certificate once final grades have been received in all courses used to satisfy the requirements of the Certificate. Students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or better, with an average grade of B or better in Certificate courses.
Environmental Law
JD candidates at Haub Law may structure their courses of study to attain Advanced Certificates in Environmental Law as part of their law degrees. Authorized by the New York State Department of Education and offered to both practicing attorneys and current students, this certificate signifies proficiency in the fundamentals of environmental law and provides a basic grounding for practice in the field.

International Law
The Advanced Certificate in International Law is awarded to JD students upon their graduation. To earn the Certificate, students must have successfully completed 12 academic credits in qualifying international law courses.

Health Law and Policy
The Elisabeth Haub School of Law offers two options for its Advanced Certificate in Health Law and Policy. For students enrolled in our JD program, the Advanced Certificate in Health Law and Policy is awarded upon graduation to those who earn 15 credits in qualifying health law and policy courses. We also offer an Online Advanced Certificate in Health Law and Policy for both students with a JD and those without a JD who looking for a flexible option to advance their careers.

Paths to Practice
Haub Law's Paths to Practice (formerly known as Concentrations) provides a framework for students to follow when choosing their courses, if they know they want to focus on a particular practice area. The Paths have no requirements; they offer guidance only.
The Paths start with recommended foundational courses in a given area, build on those courses with intermediate doctrinal and specialized courses, and culminate with a practical skills-based capstone experience. Students are not required to give advance notice of their intention to pursue a Path to Practice. Students are welcome to meet with the advisor to the Path to Practice at any time during their time at Haub Law.
Business Law
This Path to Practice will prepare you to thrive in the ever-complex world of regulating business practices, resolving corporate disputes, establishing standards, structuring transactions, and much more. Students have the opportunity for hands-on work in our Fairbridge Investor Rights Clinic.
Depending on a student’s particular area of interest, a student may choose between two tracks within the Business Law Path to Practice: (a) Corporate; or (b) Financial Compliance.
Civil Litigation/Dispute Resolution
Haub Law offers students many opportunities to build skills in litigation, mediation, negotiation, and dispute resolution. These simulated and real-world experiences are invaluable for preparing students to practice as litigators and ADR practitioners.

Criminal Practice
Haub Law’s Criminal Practice Path to Practice prepares students to practice in the criminal justice system as a prosecutor and as public or private criminal defense attorney. Students have the opportunity to participate in simulation courses and professional experience courses including our Criminal Justice Clinic.

Family Law
This Path to Practice prepares students to practice in the field of family law, which encompasses traditional issues such as marriage, domestic violence, divorce, custody, child support, child welfare, adoption, elder law, and estate planning. Students benefit from educational opportunities available through the Pace Women’s Justice Center and clinics including our Immigration Justice Clinic.
Immigration Law
Located just outside of New York City with a vast immigrant population, Haub Law offers both academic and experiential learning opportunities in the field of immigration, asylum, and citizenship law. Students have the opportunity to gain practical experience in our Immigration Justice Clinic advocating on behalf of clients in need and collaborating with immigrants’ rights organizations.

Students pursuing our Intellectual Property Path to Practice learn the intricacies of patents, trademarks, copyrighting and trade secrets in this ever-evolving and important field of law.

Labor and Employment Law
This Path to Practice offers students an enhanced understanding of labor and employment law fundamentals, preparing students to work in the private, non-profit, and public sectors. Students have the opportunity for hands-on work in our Equal Justice America Disabilities Rights Clinic.

Haub Law’s Law and Technology Path to Practice gives students the tools to represent business clients in the information age, covering issues involving cybersecurity, internet law and social media law.

This Path to Practice includes courses in land use law, real estate transaction, finance and historic preservation. Students also have the opportunity to gain practical skills working in our nationally renowned Land use Law Center.

The Trusts and Estates Path to Practice at Haub Law helps students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare for a career helping individuals and families in the planning and administration of their estates, as well as representing executors and trustees.

Women, Gender and the Law
This Path to Practice equips students with practice skills and strategies for effective representation and advocacy for gender justice across a broad range of practice areas including family law, trusts and estates, criminal justice, and immigration. Students may participate in educational and experiential opportunities with the Pace Women’s Justice Center and the Immigration Rights Clinic.
