The course will address the subject of intellectual property in the context of international development debate between the primary players namely USA, EU, USTR, Japan on one hand and the approach adopted by developing countries on the other. It will cover patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications, and trade secrets. It will cover the relevant international conventions, treaties and legal instruments including pre-TRIPS and TRIPS, as well as their enforcement. The course will also cover the recent developments such as traditional knowledge and genetic resources and folklore, access to medicines, Artificial Intelligence etc. There will be detailed discussion of the international institutions, particularly WTO and WIPO.
